When you get your dog, you must understand one thing: you’re now a pack. No matter how ridiculous it may seem or sound, dogs are programmed to think that way. And, of course, if you’re accepted as a member or leader of a pack, you will be protected. Knowing that can make you feel at ease.

It will make them happy

If a dog is well trained and obedient, you probably won’t have a problem with sharing your bed with them or telling them when they need to get off. A poorly trained dog, a possessive or jealous dog, or a dog with behaviour problems like aggression will naturally show that the bed is theirs. Before you let your dog on bed – make sure they don’t show any signs of aggression or possession because that may pose as a problem in the future.
Can you get sick if you let your dog sleep on the bed?
Technically, yes. If your dog is spending time outside there is an off chance to get dirt, fleas, ticks, worms and some other diseases inside your home. But here’s what you need to do to prevent that from happening:
- Regular checkups at the vet are a must.
- You have to have the dog properly trained.
- Make sure they get their shots on time, vitamins and other necessary nutrients.
- Regularly groom them, comb them to remove extra hair and dander or take them to the salon.
- Regular bath time is also a must – use shampoo only designated for dogs.
- Don’t let your dog near infants, toddlers or small children.
- If you’re letting your dog on the bed with a child, make sure to teach them how to handle ad go and not upset them beforehand.
- Dogs around children need to be supervised – don’t let them stay together for too long without checking up on them.
- Carefully handle your dogs’ faeces and urine – if it happens inside the home, make sure to sanitize the area thoroughly. If you scoop it outside, make sure to wash your hands.
